For most people, car insurance seems to be a tough nut to crack. It’s really not one of the easiest things for the person to navigate, and although there’s a good chance that a person will find something that will really work out for them, it’s still something that a lot of people need quite a bit of help with. There seems to be a lot of people who struggle with finding that policy that will work out for them, and for those who may not have had that much experience with it, there’s that chance that they may have a few misconceptions about it. It’s common, especially for those who haven’t had a few policies, or those who haven’t bought a policy before. Misconceptions were developed a while ago for car insurance, and if it remains as mired as it is current, one can expect people to always be a little bit confused as to some of the things that are important to the car insurance companies.
Age Doesn’t Matter
For whatever reason, there seems to be a lot of people who don’t think that age plays a factor. There couldn’t be anything further from the truth, as it is one of the most crucial parts of the process. Statistics say that people under the age of 25 are more likely to get into a car accident, and with this being the case, a driver’s car insurance policies are going to be a little more expensive. Also, it’s the same for people over the age of 65, as they are known to be in a higher risk group for car insurance, as well. It’s also noteworthy to state that the male is the highest risk group, with the most expensive driver being the single male under the age of 25, as they are responsible for the most accidents on the roadways.
You’re Not Responsible for Friends or Family
We’re not saying that a person is responsible for all of the wrecks that they are in, although they are if a friend or family member is driving the car. Most insurance carriers will not cover damage to your vehicle or injuries or damage to another parties vehicle if the driver of your vehicle lives in your household but is not named on your policy. It’s something that quite a lot of people have found out the hard way.
Color and Flash Matter A Lot
While there are some cars that are stolen more than others, the color and the flashiness of a vehicle doesn’t really mean too much for the insurance company. What does mean a lot is the make, model, year, performance and some of the safety features that the car has. The more provisions that the car has for anti-theft directly correlate to the premium, as well.
Collision Is All You Need
While collision insurance is very important, it’s assuredly not all that a person would need. It does protect in the event of an accident, it doesn’t cover anything else. So, things such as vandalism or theft really won’t hold too much water if the driver only has collision insurance. With that being the case, people should really consider other options when they are searching for auto insurance.
Hit & Run Damage To My Vehicle Is Covered Under My Uninsured Motorist (UM) Coverage
Most insurance carriers will only apply the uninsured motorist coverage deductible waiver if they can, in fact, prove that the reponsible party does not have insurance. The absence of information on the reponsible party, unfortunately, does not trigger the UM waiver.
